Spring/Summer Fireplace Decor Ideas

September 30, 2020 by Marshall Wheeler

Springtime is here. Daylight savings time is in practice. Air conditioners are in use. Summer clothes are being brought out of storage.

Cold weather is gone. Well, for me at least. My sister, currently residing in Maine, is still experiencing cold wet days.

However, one day she will not. They do have spring and summer in Maine. Those seasons are just experienced simultaneously and for only three months, but still that is three months she will not use her fireplace. What can she do with it? Where has this come from? What magazine was I perusing or home improvement show had I viewed that suddenly brought about this need to make her fireplace appear springy? Summery?

Nothing, I met a friend for lunch and she told me she branched up her fireplace. What? Branching up? My friend is tired of her fireplace. We live in Texas… and she only used it once this year. (Wow- really? It has been a cold one here… even I used the heat more. Alas, I do not have a fireplace.) She told me she decorated with the tried and true method of fireplace decorating and filled it with a candelabra and candles. However, after one week she knew that candles were not the way she wanted to go.

Spring/Summer Fireplace Décor Ideas- Think inside the box… literally

My friend decided to use the fireplace for its purpose… to store branches, logs and twigs. She went in her back yard and gathered various sizes of wood… and then to her neighbors, and around the block gathering pieces of wood she liked. She told me she placed all the pieces of wood in the fireplace until there was no space left… and that was she was left with was a nice reminder of outside. Okay, then. My sister could do that. It is a pretty cool idea.

Spring/Summer Fireplace Décor Ideas- Bring nature in

Rather than completing filling the fireplace with wood pieces, strategically place plants all around the hearth and the inside of the fireplace. Use matching colored pots of various shapes and sizes. I like that idea. Only she has animals and she would have to pot only non poisonous plants.

Spring/Summer Fireplace Décor Ideas- Create Art

Rather than using candles of various shapes and sizes or flowers. Fill the fireplace with vases. Pick a theme and go from there. All the same color, all the same metal, all the same style. Have fun.

Spring/Summer Fireplace Décor Ideas- Look closely

Fill the fireplace with a perfect fit mirror. How interesting would that be? Mirrors reflect light so that could really liven up a room. Instant art mirrored by whatever is on the floor! Another friend of mine has an LED hula hoop. Maybe my sister could make an LED display on her fireplace… but that might be too head- achey, eh?

Hey, these are some great ideas… I am so glad I am going to visit her in May and we can work on decorating her fireplace. After all… it is no longer fireplace weather in Maine in May, right?
